The Alchemy of Time

The Alchemy of Time

The hourglass feeds on ghosts

it slows but never sleeps

the selfsame cycle of sand

still ticking away into eternity.

I should be able to

break free

but nothing ever changes

except in dreams.

Which is real?

this static reality

or endless worlds

born from chimera and

Every night, I escape to

a new unknown

Which would you choose?

I ask, while knowing the answer,

yet, still, entrust my last wish to you,

mystic warrior,

walker of worlds,

and my never-ending ghost.

Please, fracture time

and bring me home.

  1. Sounds like you have some pretty good dreams – be grateful for that πŸ˜‰
I had one recently that felt more vivid than real life – I was in Rio, walking through a hillside street with someone, when I looked up and say the Christ the Redeemer statue. I looked up thinking (as Robert Smith is singing now – I’m listening to Closedown as I type!) “If only I could..”
Then I realized that there’s no reason why I couldn’t just go up to the statue.
I woke up, excited about the experience I’d just had in Rio.

    • It’s awesome when they are so vivid like that! It really is like visiting another world, or dimension, sometimes! But then I have dreams where I’m a cashier at my high school job and there’s otters everywhere *laugh*.

  3. This reminds me of some dreams I have where they’re pieces of different events and I wake up wondering what exactly just happened… Well done!

  5. The dreams of a writer are always dressed in wondrous visions. Unless you write horror, hmm….ok that explains mine then!

Great open and as good friend Marje said a dream about poems and time would be very cool 😊
