Blocky Block Blockage

Ook, Classic really did disappear. I saw in somebody’s blog post that it was going away, and I’m trying to figure out how to post up posts now. I will be able to get the hang of it, but I think the question is whether if I have the time and motivation. *laugh* Anybody want to weigh in? I got on earlier and I am trying not to be impulsive and shut down everything. I might at least just shut down the newest one (not this Willow Croft one). But we’ll see. How are you all doing?

  1. When this whole ‘block’ thing started I made sure I had the URL for my ‘classic’ tucked away somewhere safe in case they did try and eliminate the thing completely, and I have that page saved in my ‘favourites’ folder, just in case. 😀 … it’s still going strong, so I suspect that WP got enough of a backlash from PC users (the block editor was specifically designed to pull in people who did their blogging on tablets or their phones) that they decided to keep the ‘classic’ editor, but bury it so that any newbies to blogging on WordPress would automatically start using the block editor.

I have used the block editor but it’s too ungainly for my needs. It feels like the original ‘cut and paste’ in the ancient times before personal computers were a thing, where you actually had to cut bits of paper and glue them to another sheet of paper in order to get the design (a leaflet for instance) you wanted.

  2. Not sure if its’ related but I can’t get onto my WordPress blog for unknown reason. Maybe something to do with “Classic” disappearing? I was never notified of any kind of change on WP but whatever they’ve done I can’t get access to my blog. Hopefully you can figure it out – I’m about to give up and go to Blogger or some other free blogging site. Frustrating!

    1. Oh no, how long has it been since you could get on? I haven’t done my blog reading yet this week, so were you able to post this week? (Presumably not…?)

      1. Three days – Taking PC to “computer doctor” just in case it has anything to do with that BUT from what I hear lots of folks having issues with WP. Good luck to you! Pam

      2. Haven’t posted in three days but I’ll get it straightened out SOMEHOW! Hope you are able to do what you need to do. It’s frustrating to let your followers down though with you are a regular blogger.

  3. It only took me a week or so to adjust, and I feel like they started rolling it out some years ago. However, if you want options for your layout, you might be able to find one you like if you click on the paragraph button in the upper left of the block.

  4. It’s easy albeit a tad tedious to fix.
    1. Bring up the edit page for your post
    2. Add this bit of code at the end of the URL: &classic-editor
    3. Push enter. It’ll come up as the classic edit page.

I love them, too, and am fortunate enough to see them around my garden. Glad you liked the poem.
    Gwen.

    1. Good to hear I’m not the only one. I mean, to be fair, I am actually really good at picking up stuff like this, but what it comes down to is time. Of which I have very little. With WordPress, it’s like “I just want to get in and out; post up and leave.”–to go to all the other stuff I have to do. Like, there’s not enough hours in the day already, right? LOL!
